Barrasford is a delightful, rural village situated amidst stunning, picturesque countryside yet only a short distance from local amenities. The village has a village shop for everyday amenities and the Barrasford Arms offers an excellent bar and restaurant. The wonderful surrounding countryside offers excellent walking and cycling on the doorstep together with Hadrian’s Wall and the facilities of Kielder Water close by. The village of Wark has further day-to-day amenities with a Post Office/village shop, farm shop, public houses, GP surgery and sports facilities. The market towns of Bellingham and Hexham provide a wider range of local retail and professional services together with a hospital; an eclectic range of boutiques, cafes and restaurants in Corbridge are also very accessible. In addition Newcastle is within easy reach and provides comprehensive cultural, recreational and shopping facilities.
For schooling, Chollerton Church of England First School is situated in the village and there are also excellent First Schools in nearby Humshaugh and Beaufront, while senior schooling is offered in Hexham. In addition, nearby Mowden Hall Preparatory School offers private education from nursery up to 13 years, while Newcastle has several private day schools.
For the commuter the A68 and A69 provide excellent access to Newcastle in the east and Carlisle in the west, and onward access to the A1 and M6. The railway station at Hexham provides regular cross country services to both Newcastle and Carlisle, which in turn link to main line services to other major UK cities north and south. Newcastle International Airport is also within easy reach.
From Corbridge take Stagshaw Road out of the village and follow the A68 north for about 6.4 miles. Take the left turn onto the A6079 signposted to Barrasford/Chollerford and follow this road for 1.3 miles turning right towards Wark and Barrasford. At the T junction turn right and follow the road into the village. The driveway entrance for the Manor House is on the left hand side opposite The Barrasford Arms.
