Sandhoe is a small hamlet that sits in an elevated position above Corbridge and Hexham on the south-facing slopes of the Tyne Valley. In the neighbouring hamlet of Anick there is The Rat Inn which ranked in the Top 50 Gastropubs 2013 and 2014. The popular Tyne Valley village of Corbridge is close by and offers a variety of shops, a renowned delicatessen, further restaurants, while nearby Matfen Hall and Close House offer excellent leisure facilities. The historic market town of Hexham offers a full range of day-to-day amenities with supermarkets, a good range of shops and restaurants, leisure centre, doctors’ and dentist surgeries, a petrol station, professional services and a hospital. The beautiful surrounding area provides walks and other country pursuits, with golf courses, sports clubs and Hexham racecourse within easy reach. Newcastle City Centre provides further comprehensive cultural, educational, recreational and shopping facilities.
For schooling, there is an excellent first school at Beaufront, while middle and senior schooling is offered in Hexham. In addition, nearby Mowden Hall Preparatory School which offers private education from nursery up to 13 years, is a short distance away just outside Corbridge, while Newcastle has several private day schools.
For the commuter the A69 provides excellent access to Newcastle to the east and Carlisle to the west, with onward access to the A1 and M6 respectively. The railway station at Hexham provides regular cross country services to both Newcastle and Carlisle, which in turn link to main line services to other major UK cities north and south. Newcastle International Airport is also within easy reach.
