Local Information

Crosby is a small village in Cumbria set on the coast of the Solway Firth. The village has a pub with restaurant while nearby Maryport, originally a fishing village, offers a wider range of local amenities and has a railway station on the Cumbrian Coast Line; the town holds the popular Maryport Blues Festival every summer. The market town of Cockermouth provides a wide range of shops, supermarkets, chemists, medical and dental surgeries, sports centre and many restaurants and pubs and Carlisle, which is also within easy reach, provides further comprehensive cultural, recreational and shopping facilities.

For schooling, there is a primary school in Crosscanonby and for secondary schooling there is Netherhall School in Maryport as well as a highly-regarded school in Cockermouth.

For the commuter the A596/A595 provides easy access to Carlisle and onwards to M6 for links to the north and south. The rail station at Carlisle provides regular services to major UK cities north and south and also services east to Newcastle.


Take the A595 west from Carlisle for almost 4 miles, joining the A596 signposted to Wigton at the roundabout near Thursby. Continue on the A596 for around 18 miles into Crosby, take the right in the village signposted to Crosscanonby. The gated entrance to The Coach House, Solway Villa is a short distance along this lane on the right hand side.
