The Property

Shortridge Hall is a magnificent Grade II Listed hall located in an idyllic situation combining both rural and coastal views. The property, which was acquired by the current owners in 2002, was built in 1898 by W.L. Newcombe of Newcastle for Mr. R. Deuchar, a local brewer and property speculator. The property is constructed of squared stone with ashlar dressings, under a graduated Lakeland slate roof and has undergone extensive refurbishment in recent years, extending to approximately 1,528m2 (16,447ft2). The sympathetic renovation combines high quality fixtures and fittings with traditional features throughout. The original character has been retained with panelled wooden doors, wooden floors, ornate cornicing and French windows. The windows to the ground floor have glazed top lights emblazoned with the Deuchar arms and motto “Verus ad Finem” which continue the history of this fabulous property.

Shortridge Hall is approached via a gated entrance with a sweeping drive leading to the pillared entrance. Solid wood doors lead to the entrance vestibule with original mosaic style flooring with a further set of half glazed wooden doors leading into the reception hall, with useful boot room off and access to the lift which runs from the ground floor to the first floor. The reception hall is a truly exceptional welcome into the house with its full height enhanced by the original domed atrium ceiling with coloured glazing, three bay elliptical arcade and imperial staircase with moulded handrail leading to the first floor.

The breakfast kitchen is situated on the eastern side of the property with three full length windows flooding the room with natural light. The kitchen is fitted with a Mark Wilkinson kitchen comprising a range of wooden units with complementary granite worksurface, the style replicated on the central island. The swimming pool complex, which has been built in a complementary style by the current owners, is a real highlight of the property. As well as the fabulous swimming pool there is a steam room and shower as well as French doors out to a sun terrace overlooking the garden.

Shortridge Hall is located approximately 1.5 miles from the Northumberland coastal village of Warkworth which can be accessed using a nearby pathway/cycleway and is part of St Oswalds Way. Warkworth is situated in the loop of the River Coquet and is best known for its medieval castle, church and hermitage. The village offers excellent local amenities and is popular for its old buildings, walks along the River Coquet and its proximity to the Northumberland Coast. There are a lovely variety of traditional pubs, restaurants and boutique shops.

Nearby Alnwick offers every day amenities with supermarkets, a good range of shops, primary and secondary schooling, a modern leisure centre, playhouse/cinema, hospital and Alnwick Castle and Garden; the latter offering contemporary landscaped gardens and unique Treehouse Restaurant. The beautiful surrounding area provides varied country and beach walks including Howick Hall Gardens and numerous golf courses nearby. Newcastle city centre provides further comprehensive cultural, educational, recreational and shopping facilities.

For the commuter the A1 provides access north to Edinburgh and south to Newcastle International Airport and City Centre.
