Preparing for the Autumnal Market

Now that the long summer break is over and the children are back to school, thoughts turn towards (dare I mention the word) “Christmas”. We agents usually find that September is a busy month, with vendors putting their houses on the market in time to facilitate a move so they can enjoy the festive season in a new home.

Time, therefore, to spruce up your home prior to marketing and tidy up the gardens; a trimmed hedge and neatly mown lawn along with weed free borders give a great first impression! Sparkling windows, swept pathways and gleaming fresh paintwork to woodwork and doors all add to the appeal.

Internally, a clutter free home with clean work surfaces will give an overall feeling of space. Kitchens and bathrooms ought to be immaculate in order to portray the property at its very best.

Rather than spend a lot of money on expensive refurbishments, often a thorough clean and the odd lick of paint will suffice.

It is still very much a buyers’ market in the North East. In order to compete it is essential to be realistic about the value of your home and to choose your agent with care…..it does not always pay to decide purely on the fee they charge, but rather ensure your chosen agent uses the best websites, marketing and has the right staff to ensure the best service in a difficult market.

Once you have presented your home to its best advantage and chosen the agent who is right for your property you can look forward. You have every chance of securing a buyer and moving on in time for Christmas!
