Greenfield Farm is situated on the edge of the unspoilt North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The surrounding rural area is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and the stunning surrounding scenery is linked by a network of public footpaths, ideal for walking and cycling. The C2C cycle route, an award-winning national cycle route, is within easy walking distance of Greenfield Farm and links to a further network of other disused railways and tracks, including the Lanchester Valley Walk which runs between Consett and Durham.
Nearby Lanchester is a popular and thriving village set amidst beautiful countryside of mainly pasture and woodland. The traditional village offers a wide range of everyday amenities including a range of shops, pharmacy, post office, a selection of restaurants and pubs, an active community centre and churches. The village green is frequently used for community events.
Wolsingham, a charming dales market town situated by the River Wear is also nearby. This small market town remains much as it did hundreds of years ago and the annual Wolsingham Agricultural Show on the first weekend in September, which was established in 1763, is one of the oldest shows in the country. Wolsingham provides a good range of everyday facilities including doctors and dentist surgeries, chemist, independent grocers and other local businesses. Nearby Consett offers several supermarkets, larger stores and professional services while Durham Newcastle and Hexham are also within easy reach and provide comprehensive cultural, educational, recreational and shopping facilities.
For schooling, Lanchester offers a choice of popular primary schools and an excellent secondary school, whilst Wolsingham Primary School and Wolsingham School & Community College are also close by. There are also a number of private schools available nearby in both Durham and Newcastle.
For the commuter, Greenfield Farm is ideally placed for access to the major centres of the north east. The A68 provides access both north and south linking to both the motorway network and to the A69 for quick connection to Newcastle in the east and Carlisle in the west.
