Local Information

Thropton is a small rural village situated at the foot of the Simonside Hills. The village itself boasts two public houses; The Cross Keys and The Three Wheat Heads Inn and there is a wider range of day to day services and ameneties in the local market town of Rothbury. The area is famed for the National Trust’s Cragside House which was once owned by Lord Armstrong and was the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. The historic Alnwick Castle and Gardens are only 12 miles away and, as Thropton lies on the edge of Northumberland National Park, there are plenty of places to walk and explore.

 

Thropton Village First School and Rothbury First School cater for primary education whilst there is a Middle School in Rothbury, along with several Middle and High Schools all within 15 miles including the Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ King Edward VI Academy in Morpeth.

 

For the commuter Newcastle upon Tyne is less than an hour by car and Acklington, Alnmouth and Morpeth railway stations all offer mainline services. Newcastle Airport also provides both domestic and international flights. The A1 is around 25 minutes away and is a main route North and South.
